Interview with
Designer
When people get curious about interior design, they naturally turn to the internet. But they quickly become overwhelmed by the endless choices and decisions. That’s where I come in — to cut through the noise and curate thoughtful, cohesive schemes that reflect my clients’ lifestyles.
I don't tell my clients 'this is your chair, this is your fabric…'. Instead I try to nurture a collaborative dynamic and encourage them to be involved as much as they are comfortable with.
I like to stay open-minded, especially in the early stages of design, to explore new styles or experiment with colors that a client may not be used to. My presentations usually feel like casual conversations where the client and I workshop ideas together. From there, we refine and reshape the space to reflect their current stage in life.
Interior design is a truly special experience. For many clients, it marks a new chapter — whether relocating for a job or their kids graduating. It’s a personal journey, and I’m honored to be part of these meaningful moments. At the same time, earning the trust of someone new and entering their personal life is a big responsibility. To honor that trust, I’m committed to being clear and transparent — about budget limits, timelines for custom pieces, and more. Not all news may be positive, but I always strive to be honest and upfront. Creating a stylish space is important, but your home should be a place where you and your family feel safe and comfortable — and the design process should feel that way too.
I don't like to hide things; when a problem arises we should have healthy conversations, so that we can resolve it proactively.
I’m naturally organized and love to be efficient — maybe it’s the architect in me, or perhaps it comes from being raised in Japan. New Yorkers don’t have time to waste, and time is money here. While I aim to be attentive to every detail, there are always constraints — whether it’s clients’ schedules, construction lead times, or the allocated budget for consultations. So I carefully balance these factors to deliver a beautiful space without compromise. Ultimately, it’s so important to me to leave clients with a home they are proud to call their own.
